STL Research at Oceanology International, SeaWork, and Ocean Tech Exhibitions 2026

Over the past few months, STL Research have been very active in exhibiting at, and attending several exhibitions, and we would like to thank everyone who took the time to speak with us.

In March, we exhibited at Oceanology International, as part of the extremely successful National Centre for Marine Autonomy stand, which was coordinated by Plymouth and South Devon Freeports.

As this was considered the official launch of Plymouth being recognised as the UK Centre for Marine Autonomy, it was a perfect opportunity for STL Research to promote our advances in motion compensation, control, and automation, for offshore and subsea industries.

Prior to the event, David Kirkley, Managing Director of STL Research explained, “Our Proteus Launch and Recovery Systems, which can be installed on any suitable vessel, including autonomous and unmanned surface vessels, enables the safe launch and recovery of autonomous marine equipment, under local or remote control.”

At the time, David also acknowledged that “As OI also showcases cutting-edge technologies and solutions, we will also be promoting our Neptune Personnel Access System, which enables the safe and efficient transfer of personnel with equipment, from a vessel, via a gondola, to a fixed, or floating, offshore structure with full motion compensation to remove wave induced motions.”

In June, we attended SeaWork in Southampton. This presented an opportunity for our Business Development Manager, Phil Vosper to engage with a number of vessel owners and operators, to discuss a safer means of transferring personnel to offshore structures, using our Neptune Personnel Access System.

As there was an autonomous area at this exhibition, for the first time, it was also an occasion where our Proteus Launch and Recovery System could be promoted to all interested parties.
Whilst STL Research were not exhibiting at this event, there was still significant interest in our products, which we are personally following up.

We decided to exhibit at Maritime UK South West’s Ocean Tech Expo in Plymouth, because this event showcases leading technical and near market innovation capable of increasing productivity, improving safety, and adding to national security for many offshore activities.

Again, David Kirkley had previously explained “Ocean Tech Expo comes at a time when the South West’s strategic importance for marine autonomy, defence, and floating offshore wind, has been recognised by government and industry alike. Our expertise in motion compensation for offshore applications is ideally suited to improve safety and increase productivity in all of these focus markets”.

Following the Ocean Tech Expo, our Business Development Manager, Phil Vosper, explained “With Ocean Tech Expo, the quality of attendees and the feedback during interactions, was very encouraging, and suggests there is real interest in both of our primary products.”

He went on to confirm that “Despite focusing on Neptune PAS and Proteus LARS, the Royal Navy along with a Tier 1 supplier, have expressed an interest in hiring our Janus 63 motion platform, as a more cost effective means of testing component capability and suitability prior to future more extensive sea trials.

Following the successful engagements at these exhibitions, we have decided to attend the Floating Offshore Wind 2026 exhibition in Aberdeen on 7th and 8th October. Our Business Development Manager, Phil Vosper, will be in attendance for both days, and would welcome the opportunity to discuss how STL Research can help with existing and future projects.
